“Green Approaches to Japanese Woodworking and Bath Culture” panel discussion by the Japan Society of Boston

Prof. Demi Fang moderated a panel organized by the Japan Society of Boston titled “Green Approaches to Japanese Woodworking and Bath Culture.” Presented in partnership with the Koguma Benefit Corp, panelists included Kohei Yamamoto (Somakosha), Matthew Dami (Winterfound Forest Farm), and Sami Ullah Khan Babar (water engineering), team members from a local project siting an onsen tub built with traditional Japanese carpentry techniques within a regenerative farm in Vermont.

We enjoyed reflecting on the different areas of expertise that funneled into the multicultural project and reflecting on how these areas of expertise have been shaped by informal knowledge transfer, including the carpentry trade in Japan and regenerative agricultural practices in the United States.
